Football festival moves to Wilton
Culture Kicks – Wellington 's local version of the FIFA World Cup – is moving from its traditional Martin Luckie Park location to Ian Galloway Park in Wilton . Part of the City Council's Summer City Festival, it takes place next Sunday (20 March).
Culture Kicks is a colourful festival celebrating Wellington 's diverse population through a combination of the beautiful game, stalls and entertainment, and much fanfare.
At least 35 five-a-side teams have already registered for the cup, and they represent countries/regions from as far and wide as West Africa, Korea, Turkey, Britain, Colombia, Japan, Thailand–Burma, Indonesia, The Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. Last year's champions, Poland (from Christchurch ), beat United Arabs in a dramatic finale.

The Culture Kicks final was initially meant to be played a week after the heats (Sunday 27 March) at Waitangi Park to coincide with Globalfest – marking the end of Capital E's children's festival. However, because the park is now deemed waterlogged and unsuitable for both events, the Culture Kicks final will instead take place on Sunday 20 March. As for Globalfest – this will take place at Civic Square , just next to Capital E. See capitale.org.nz for more information.
Culture Kicks starts at 9am and runs until around 5pm at Ian Galloway Park . To get there, take the number 14 bus to Wilton . Ian Galloway Park is about 10 minutes' walk up the road from the last stop at Surrey Street . Alternatively, the number 3 to Karori stops nearby – alight at the Chaytor/Curtis Street intersection and follow Curtis Street to the park.
