New Zealand Institute of International Affairs and ASEAN Committee in Wellington invite all of you to attend a seminar that will explore the theme of 'ASEAN in the Global Community". Please see below for more detail.
In recent years the ten-member ASEAN group of Southeast Asian nations has emerged in its own right as a political and economic power centre in the Asia-Pacific region. From small beginnings this dynamic and increasingly influential group has grown to be a major partner for New Zealand in regional affairs. The new ASEAN-New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Agreement is a leading example of the next generation of multilateral trade liberalisation measures. ASEAN members and New Zealand also share common interests across a range of political and security issues. This timely seminar will feature a presentation by a distinguished former Foreign Minister of Indonesia, and an expert’s panel discussion.
